RUTH KEMP
Artist and Graphic Designer
ABOUT
I work from my home based studio situated in northern Tasmania. I was employed as a graphic designer and commercial artist for more than twenty five years, in a variety of fields including museum exhibitions, the sign industry and newspapers. I also worked as a graphic designer on a freelance basis.
I have studied extensively in the fields of fine and creative arts, including drawing, painting, printmaking and book structures. I have taught as a high school arts teacher and held art classes for adults for a number of years in watercolour and pastels.
I enjoy working in most media, my favourites being pastels, watercolours and mixed media where I often combine drawing with ink, pastels and acrylics.
In my artworks I often look at the “smaller” picture, zooming in to examine detail which is often overlooked, be it in a landscape or still life composition. I am predominantly a representational artist, but abstract design can be found in even the most realistic of images.
My formal qualifications include a Graphic Design Certificate from Randwick TAFE, a Fine Arts Diploma from Illawarra TAFE and from Wollongong University, a Bachelor of Creative Arts (distinction), majoring in graphic design and creative arts and a Diploma of Education.
